Been Gone Way Too Long

"Been gone way too long, let me fly home..."
This line from Stephen's original song "The Old Town" keeps running through my head as I scold myself for not posting, or for that matter not even writing-- no pen to paper lately even to journal. Geesh! I could give the same old sob story about how I've been so busy... BLAH BLAH BLAH. But the truth once spoken long ago by my husband (even before he was my husband) echoes in my head: "We do what we want to do."
So on this early Saturday morning, with really NO idea what I'm going to write, I have paused for quick reflection and hopefully a little light and blessing to shine your way.
One of my favorite workout gurus, Gilad Janklowicz, once said, "Don't wait for inspiration to take action; take action and inspiration will come." I love this and need its wisdom because sometimes I am just in a slump, a funk, a cloud and I really just have to fight to get out and back to where I need to be.
Perhaps I'm not the only one. Perhaps our focus gets a little off as we are running toward our goals. I am reminded of the game where someone puts his forehead on the end of a baseball bat and spins around a couple of times before running toward a base of some kind. When a player stops spinning, his balance is all messed up and he can't focus all of himself on the goal. He runs like a drunk person toward-- well, nothing really. The same thing happens to us. An illness. Spin. An unexpected expense. Spin. Way too much rain... or too little. Spin. Spin Spin... When we look up to run again, we've lost our way a little. That's when we really have to plant our feet, take a deep breath, say a prayer or two, and just go. The weird dizziness eventually wears off and we get focused again.
The Word of God in Haggai 2:4 & 5 tells us what to do in these moments: "Be strong... Get to work. My Spirit is with you. So do not be afraid."
I faced my fear of writer's block this morning, and lo and behold, I even got spun a time or 2 while I was trying to finish this post. BUT I refuse to choose the panic of dizzy spinning instead of the GRACE of solid ground; I will choose to be strong and get to work. I hope all of you have a fabulous Saturday, and I hope to see you right here again soon! GRACE to you from our very muddy RED DIRT.
